CONFIDENCE in the future of Cairns has led to Hoppen's Carpets building new $1.5 million premises at Manunda.
Work has started on the Anderson St site by Keir Constructions and is expected to take six months.
Director Wayne Hoppen said it was time for the 38-year-old business to have its own premises after leasing properties in Sheridan St, Spence St and McLeod St since 1974.
"We believe in the future of Cairns. Business is good for us, we've had good growth," he said.
"The building has been designed to suit us, we have been through all the council approvals, all the hurdles, such as car parking and disabled requirements. This building will be with us for the next 20 years."
Mr Hoppen said he was pleased to be able to tell people that they were moving, investing in the future of the city and their family business.
"It's not all doom and gloom out there," he said.
Mr Hoppen said the corner site covered 1000sq m and the building would be 600sq m of tilt-wall construction.
